CENTRAL KAROO

It is an ancient fossil-rich land. Some Speculated millions of years ago, the ancient plains of the area were part of a vast inland lake and swamp system, teeming with early life forms. Some of the world's most important archaeological sites are found in the Karoo where the 300 million year old story of evolution of mammals from reptiles is recorded in stone where petroglyths, the rock of the San hunters, who roamed this area, remain as a treasured legacy.

Die Hel is a secluded valley in the Swartberg Mountains. It is the perfect base to exploring all the wonders of the Swartberg Mountains including Gamkaskloof (Die Hel) and Meiringspoort.
